For those awaiting June's Dip Recipe from the Christmas Lunch here it is:

1cup thick sour cream
         1/4 cup desiccated coconut
2 tablespoons chopped almonds
2 tablespoons sieved apricot jam
2 teaspoons finely chopped glacé ginger
2 teaspoons brandy/rum

Serve with chilled prepared fresh fruit

This is an absolutely gorgeous quilt Merrilyn has made for a friend (lucky friend).  I know for a fact that the owner of the shop where she purchased the material is very jealous as she had this fabric earmarked for herself!!!  It was unfortunate that it was quite windy when trying to take the photo so it doesn't entirely do the quilt justice.

Christmas Get Together

Yesterday we celebrated a good year of sewing chatting and friendship at Lonsdale Lights with lots of good food, bubbly and show and tell.

This year our challenge was to make a two coloured quilt and below are some of the finished quilts.  Hopefully others will be finished in 2014!!!

Sandi's lovely cream and blues Double Irish Chain , June with her  black and white  quilt followed by \Joan with her Blue and White Quilt and Fahey's black and white star stunner!

Below is Yvonne with her Red and and Cream Bears Paw and Karen with Aqua and White modern design.

Yesterday we also decided on designs and techniques that will be drawn every second  month for a Row by Row Quilt.  This quilt can be the size and colour of each members choice and we will be making all rows for our own quilts,   The first row due at our January can be either Log Cabin or Emblishment. The very industrious will probably make both rows but most of us will choose only one, or of course we could embellish a Log Cabin Block.

A recipe from yesterdays lunch to share

Chocolate Peppermint Slice

2 packets Chocolate Ripple biscuits
1 tin condensed milk
155g block of Cadbury Dairy Milk Bubbly
125g butter

Crush the biscuits and put into a microwave bowl.  Add other ingredients in order.
Microwave for 3 minutes.  Mix together and press into a slice tin.
Grate a peppermint crisp or extra bubbly chocolate over the top and refrigerate.

In 1997 Lonsdale Lights began after many cups of coffee and chat with a couple of near neighbours.  We found we were working on our own and decided we preferred company and motivation gained by working in a group.
Since that time members have come and gone and our numbers remain capped at twenty.  We changed our venue to the Anglican Hall, Point Lonsdale in 2001.
Many projects have been undertaken in the the past sixteen years, including Mystery Quilts in 1999 and 2008; Row by Row in 2000 and 2010; Birthday blocks in 2001 and another Mystery Block of the Month in 2002.  In 2003 and 2004 we made Friendship Blocks for all members and 2005, 2006 and 2007 were Fabric Swap years.  In 2009 we worked on our own projects; 2011 and 2012 were spent finishing UFOs and this current year 2013 is a Two Colour Quilt challenge.
